Final Essay Questions

 

These are your questions for the final. You must answer one question from each section. Each question is worth 20 points. The entire final is worth 100 points. You may bring your questions to the final, but there must be no writing on the sheet.

 

Section #1

1. Summerize the history of the Roman Empire. Include the high points and why they are important. There are 10 important dates in Roman history.

2. Was Rome better as a Republic or Empire? Support with 7 reasons either way.

3. Describe the 5 days of the ancient Olympic Games. Give details for each day. Be sure to explain why each event was placed in the Pentathlon, and why each event was place in the original Olympics.

4. Describe the feudal contract. What was the lord to provide? What was the serf to provide? In your opinion, which side had it better. Support with 8 reasons.

 

Section #2

1. Explain how the geography of Scandinavia can easily be explained by looking at Viking mythology. Use at least 8 examples.

2. Describe the rise and fall of the Incan Empire. Explain the Festival of the Sun, the predictions that came after it, and the aftermath of these predictions.

3. What were the similiarities and differences between Cortez and Quatzecoatl? Be sure to explain this physically and also through their personalities.

4. If you were Montezuma, would you accept Cortez as Quatzecoatl? Explain your answer why you chose what you did, and why you didn't choose the other way.

 

Section #3

1. Describe in great detail the three kingdoms of Egypt. Be sure to use dates and endings for each kingdom.

2. Give a brief character sketch of all the major cultures of Mesopotamia. Use dates, and include the minor cultures too.

3. List and explain all the paranoias of Ch'in. Be sure to explain their positive impact on society, and the reason why Ch'in created it in the first place.

4. In your opinion, which was better protected, China or Egypt? Give at least 8 reasons why or why not.

 

Section #4

1. Compare and contrast Christianity to Islam. You need at least 5 examples for each category.

2. Compare and contrast Christiantiy to Judaism. You need at least 5 examples for each category.

3. Compare and contrast Christtiantiy to Hinduism. You need at least 5 examples for each category.

4. Explain the Hindu doctrine, beliefs, practices, and rites completely.

 

Section #5

1. Which civilization is most like the United States? Support with at least 10 examples.

2. Give 2 events or inventions that helped the world from the following cultures: Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, Rome, China, India, Vikings, Feudalism, Aztecs, and Incas. Explain each example and why it is important. No repeats.

3. Write an essay why we need to study ancient cultures and their application today. Be sure to give solid examples of how each compliments the other.

4. In your opinion, excluding inventions, has mankind evolved? The answer is yes or no. Give specific examples, at least 8.
