One of the most important inventions of the ancient world were columns. The Greeks invented three types of columns. The Doric was the earliest and the Corinthian was the late one built. Columns were like giant puzzle pieces. There was a tooth on the bottom and an opening on the top. The columns would line up correctly and were able to hold a lot of height because of the wide base on the top and bottom.
